Don’t you wish

Don’t You Wish began with experiments in Natural Language Processing algorithms. I wrote software that uses only the most common words in the English language to produce mundane, nonspecific sentences like “Nothing will be the same” and “They don’t even know why.” Using ambiguity and lack of context, narrative and imagery emerge from what is essentially random data. Of course, they make nice song lyrics.

This performance of Nathan Ho's Don't You Wish took place on the ninth day of April in 2019 at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). This piece we lovingly refer to as a "patchwork bebop" work was written specifically for Chordas Collective by Nathan Ho.
